Disregard for Cultural Differences Creates Sore Heads in Europe

The ultimate price of niaivity is currently being paid by Europeans.  Austerity measures set by rationalists who appear to have no regard for the societies upon which the place them.  Of course a deep change is needed by our less than responsible southern Euro spenders, but the changes currently being imposed lack flair and any consideration for the strengths that make southern Europeans unique.

I have always been skeptical about a system that attempts to unite Greeks, Spanish and Italians with Austrians and Germans via a currency. How differently they approach life and work. It actually might be time to let go of the dreams.The seriously compliant were always going to struggle to forge an effective mutual dependency with   those who would rather pontificate from cafe tables.

The past however is the past, yet the same mistakes continue. Now we see the punishment being handed out to the delightfully non-compliant for simply being who they are. But they were this a longtime before the Euro was even contemplated.  That’s why people prefered taking their holidays in the Greek Islands and signing business contracts in Berlin.  That’s why Mercedes are generally more solid but possess less flair and romance than an Alfa Romeo.

The challenge for those controlling the purses across Europe is to get with it,  Yes get real and take responsibility for the niavity that preceded the birth of a single currency and the dream of one Europe.  Stop dishing out despair! Show the world you have some imagination and a regard for the rudiments of motivation.  That means thinking about the audience upon which you are inflicting your ‘austerity’ measures.  Think about how you might inspire them to do things differently but in a way that appeals to them. Most of all remember that the drivers for inspiring southerners to make fundamental changes to their approach to working and spending money will be vastly different than those prescribed to the ‘compliant’.
